There is an undeniable crispness and a hint of chill in the air. Most associate this time of year with pumpkin lattes and warm fuzzy sweaters, but for parents and those of us who work in schools, this is like a second New Years.
Every year in late August and early September, millions of kids in this nation alone, embark on an exploration of learning with new teachers, new classmates, and sometimes new schools.
You can almost feel the electrical anticipa-nxiety-xcitemen-ausea in the air.
Rupert Sheldrake, a scientist responsible for coining the term morphogenic field, "postulates that there is a field of habitual patterns that links all people, which influences and is influenced by the habits of all people...The more people have a habit pattern -- whether of knowledge, perception or behavior -- the stronger it is in the field, and the more easily it replicates in a new person."(more info here)
Simply put, "as more people learn or so something it becomes easier for other to learn or do it."
My interpretation of this yet controversial theory, is that we are all in a pool/soup of fields and our actions are governed, in many ways non-consciously, by the field in which we live.
Right now, in this moment, we are all affected by the gravitational field, the field of our gender, our country, our society, our identity as workers, and in our roles in our own families, just to mention a few.
There is even your own personal field, your collection of beliefs, experiences, and expectations that govern what people, events, and luck come into your life.
It's the effect of this field upon us. We can be impacted by unconsciously or we can tune into it to have it support us in our daily lives.
So what does this have to do with New Years??
New Years is a time when you do a lot of re-evaluation of life goals or renew the determination or drive you have to accomplish something new or challenging.
I have an invitation for you.
What are you wanting to create right now? What projects are you working on? Envisioning? Wanting to make clearer or make a reality faster?
Is it more money? A fulfilling relationship? Finishing the book that has been sitting on your hard drive? More peaceful relationships in your family?
This is a potent small window of time right now, to tune into the energy of excitement and new learning. Just imagine all of the young minds and their energy, excitement, and curiosity that is being moved right now. See if you can sit quietly and tune into it. I just want to clarify that this is not going to hurt the kids, and you are not stealing energy from them. Imagine that this energy is like the current on a river, and you are sitting on an inner tube being carried along.
The curiosity, excitement and inquisitiveness of kids is contagious. When you engage in it, you can almost feel it expand rather than diminish.
You can feel this energy and use it as support to open up to new ways of looking at an old problem, or a new project.
Just a personal example of things picking up speed, when I started teaching Brain Gym in NY in 2005, it was slow going, with not many people knowing about it and classes not being full. I have continued to teach it and now having had the opportunity to teach several hundred people in NYC and having spoken about it to the hundreds of staff and children that I work with and give in-services to, the baseline understanding of Brain Gym and the acceptance of the theories behind it, have much less resistance. I also find that the more I do this work on myself and with every new client I balance, the effects come faster and go deeper with concrete results.
So what are you waiting for? Jump in!
